Description
The Centre for the Investigation of Transnational Encounters (CITE) is a specialized centre for research on transnational links and historical comparisons between the world’s regions and societies at different times, with a specific emphasis on the modern period.
The Centre’s primary objectives are the following:
- To promote and support research on transnational links and comparisons between past societies carried on by its members and resulting in academic outputs in the form of peer-reviewed publications (i.e., Gearoid Barry, Enrico Dal Lago, and Roisin Healy, eds., Small Nations and Colonial Peripheries in World War I, Brill,)
- To provide a forum for academic discussion and initiatives leading to major events investigating transnational links and comparisons between past societies, such as international conferences (i.e., ‘1916 in Global Context: Connections and Comparisons‘, International Conference held at the Moore Institute, NUI Galway, on 16th-17th June 2016).
- To provide a forum for public awareness of the importance of transnational links and historical comparisons between Ireland and other countries in the modern past.
