Iris Murdoch: Literature and Philosophy in Dialogue
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
Date: April 12-13, 2024
Place: Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University
PROGRAMME OF THE IRIS MURDOCH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE
78 years after Iris Murdoch’s first visit to Paris, and as her scholarship continues to grow outside the United Kingdom, Paris 1 Panthéon-SorbonneUniversity is delighted to host the first Iris Murdoch International Conference in Paris.
The core theme of this event hosted in the heart of Paris, is Iris Murdoch’s dual nature as a philosopher and novelist. This conference will give the chance for scholars working on her literature and those working on her philosophy to get together in various panels and workshops.
Along with the relationship between literature and philosophy, this conference is also an opportunity to focus on the figures who influenced Murdoch, her position within moral philosophy and contemporary ethics, her literary style, her relationship with metaethics, existentialism, and phenomenology, as well as the close ties between art, aesthetics, education, and healing.
Organisers: Camille Braune (Ph.D.Candidate in Philosophy, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University) and Michela Dianetti (PhD Candidate in Italian Studies, University of Galway)
Partners: The doctoral School of Philosophy of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, Paris 1 Panthéon-SorbonneUniversity, the Iris Murdoch Society, and the Irish Research Council.
