International Chartism Conference 2014: Ireland and British Democracy – July 4th and 5th

The Moore Institute, along with the Society for the Study of Labour History, is hosting the nineteenth-annual Chartism conference on 5 July 2014. The conference theme – ‰Û÷Ireland & British Democracy’ – points to the movement of people and ideas in the battle for political rights, and the conference will explore the (positive and negative) ways in which Irish nationalism and Chartism coalesced in the mid-nineteenth century. There will be a public talk by Professor David Lloyd (University of California, Riverside) in the Mechanics Institute (Middle Street) on Friday, July 4th at 7.30pm to launch the conference.
