Maria Cullen is in the second year of a PhD under the supervision of Dr. Kevin O’Sullivan. She has been awarded a Galway Doctoral Scholarship and an NUI Travelling Studentship. Her thesis compares French and British NGOs and their work in authoritan regimes in the Global South from decolonisation to the end of the Cold War. The paper she is giving on Wednesday is entitled: ‘Humanitarian Aid in a Hostile Environment: A comparative exploration of Médecins Sans Frontières and Oxfam’s operations in the post-Khmer Rouge Cambodian crisis’
