The Centre for Disability Law & Policy is pleased to announce a public seminar on copyright reform in Ireland on 4 April, 2014 at 6pm. The seminar will reflect on the recent Copyright Review Committee report, Modernising Copyright, and the new World Intellectual Property Organisation Marrakesh Treaty, aimed at creating exceptions and limitations to benefit persons who are blind, visually impaired or otherwise print disabled, as well as easing cross-border transfer of accessible format books.

Dr. Eoin O’Dell, one of the authors of the Modernising Copyright, will speak on the experiences of academics, students and persons with disabilities dealing with copyright law and practice. It will begin with an overview of the basic principles of copyright, having regard to existing legislation and precedents (copyright past). It will then look at the important current copyright issues – in particular the problems which copyright law poses for people in education and for people with a disability (copyright present). And it will conclude with how these issues might change for the better, if current reform proposals are implemented and if international treaties are implemented (copyright future).

4 April 2014 Time: 6 ‰ÛÒ 7.30pm Venue: National University of Ireland, Galway

Seminar Room THB-G010, The Hardiman Library
