6th Annual Environment, Society & Development Symposium
Precarious Geographies: Insecurity, Solidarity and Critical Geopolitics
The Geopolitics and Justice Cluster’s 6th Annual Symposium on Environment, Society and Development takes place March 30-31 this year. The two-day symposium, supported by the Whitaker Institute and part of its Conflict, Humanitarianism and Security Cluster annual events, engages the key theme of ‘precarious geographies’ and the challenge of rendering visible ‘insecure lives’ whose political statuses have been marginalised in global networks of conflict, migration, detention and asylum. The symposium features a joint plenary from Prof. Jennifer Hyndman (York University, Canada) and Prof. Alison Mountz (Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada) and paper presentations from Prof. Gerry Kearns (NUI Maynooth), Dr Diana O’Dwyer (Dublin City University) and Dr Karen Till (NUI Maynooth). The symposium also features presentations from Geopolitics and Justice PhD candidates and Masters students on the MA in Environment, Society and Development. There is no fee to attend, and the symposium programme can be found here.
