Moore Institute seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in Creative Cities (Galway European Capital of Culture)

NUI Galway is working in partnership with Galway 2020 following the designation of Galway as European Capital of Culture (ECoC). A major part of this partnership includes the vital Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) dimension of the programme. This M&E process will establish an evidence base enabling an assessment of the benefits of the designation, as required by EU funding guidelines. This collaborative project will be instrumental in developing a deeper understanding of the contributions of the ECoC at both the local and European-level, and provide a means to assess the delivery of the designation’s objectives.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time, fixed-term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher based in the Moore Institute. The position is for 2.5 years/30 months and is available from August 2019. The suitable candidate will undertake key research under the direction of Prof. Daniel Carey (Director of the Moore Institute) in association with academic leaders in the University and within the 2020 team, focusing on monitoring and evaluation against an agreed set of aims, objectives and outcomes for Galway’s year as European Capital of Culture in 2020. These include measuring social and economic impacts against available baseline data and evaluating Galway 2020 activities undertaken in communities and with arts practitioners as part of the European Capital of Culture.

We are particularly interested in applications from the broad field of Cultural Geography and those already familiar with the transformative effects of culture-led development. The successful candidate will:

Help coordinate the university’s M&E activities related to the European Capital of Culture;
Work with colleagues to devise new M&E research that is relevant to European Commission evaluation reports;
Facilitate community outreach events that are related directly to M&E of Galway 2020 and its wider contexts;
Help lead and coordinate conferences and other key events connected with the ECoC and its legacy programme.
