Meetings with Ivor is an 81-minute documentary on the life and work of ground-breaking psychiatrist Ivor Browne. Browne has been a central figure in Irish mental health debates for many decades and his pioneering and often controversial work on behalf of the many who cannot speak for themselves is well-known.
Alan Gilsenan’s highly original film centres on Browne, who in his late-eighties, remains a startlingly refreshing and innovative thinker. The director – well known for his films about the institutions and individuals that have shaped Irish society – takes a unique approach to his subject, having set out to make a film on Browne ‘as radical as the man himself’.
