Can Irish be Sold Outside the Gaeltacht?

A Critical Sociolinguistic Investigation of the Contemporary Promotion of Irish in Business

This talk will present insights from on-going PhD research on the promotion of Irish as an economic resource for businesses in urban areas located outside the Gaeltacht. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork, it will examine the dynamics and consequences of advocating the use of Irish as a valuable business tool in the traditionally Anglophone sphere of urban commerce.
