Full-time, Fixed-term Post Available (6 months)
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a 6 month full-time, fixed-term contract position as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Economics, in the Policy Lab at the National University of Ireland, Galway. This position is carried out with the support of the Foodshield Science Foundation Ireland Project, funded by the Irish Government.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be employed to undertake research in the area of Economic-environmental-spatial impact of novel technologies as part of the SFI funded Foodshield project. The Postdoctoral Researcher will work in an interdisciplinary environment with PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, research scientists, and faculty staff from NUI, Galway, UCD and AFBI and others. The Postdoctoral Researcher will join the current Policy Lab team in examining a range of issues in relation to the economic, environmental and spatial impact of novel technologies. Duties:
The project will develop an analytical framework to undertake an economic-environmental-spatial impact assessment of new bio-economy sectors. The impact assessment will build upon a framework developed to look at the impact of marine renewables. In this research programme we utilise novel economic analytical routines to evaluate the multi-dimension impact of new technologies on the economy, whether it be from a system point of view (Van Ittersum et al, 2008), a value chain effect or on the wider economy a spatial impact or from a risk assessment point of view. We will also extend the value chain perspective to incorporate carbon footprinting.
The post holder will be expected to present their work in oral format, at international project meetings and symposia as well as in related marine stakeholder fora. They will also be expected to collaborate on the production of reports and publications in the peer reviewed scientific literature and popular press.
