SUMMARY:Beckett Reading Group
DESCRIPTION:Beckett Reading Group \nAll readings will be kept short\, as this reading group is meant to inspire not increase the work that everyone is doing. We will be concentrating on his radio and television plays for our first meetings. We hope that considering the implications of these works as texts will lead to stimulating discussion. We hope to foster a dialogue about how these texts are studied as ‰Û÷texts‰۪\, rather than or alongside the medium in which they were incepted. Group members are welcome to bring critical pieces into discussion\, but there is no pressure to do so. In fact\, coming with visceral reactions that form critical inquiry as discussions progress is encouraged. Email Kristin Jones at k.jones1@nuigalway.ie and David Delaney d.delaney2@nuigalway.ie with any questions. \nWeek Four: 4 Dec. Nacht und TrÌ_ume \nWe will reconvene in Semester 2.

SUMMARY:School of Physics Seminar Programme 2012-2013 - Massive Star Formation in the Milky Way
DESCRIPTION:Massive Star Formation in the Milky Way\nNew surveys at infrared and radio wavelengths are providing the means\nto systematically search our Galaxy for new massive stars in the process\nof forming. Although rare\, massive stars have a profound affect on their\nenvironment and the evolution of galaxies. The methodologies and\noutstanding questions concerning the physical processes in massive star\nbirth will be discussed.\nThe speaker is Prof. Melvin Hoare. He obtained his PhD in 1988\nat UCL and after periods at Oxford and Heidelberg\, joined the star\nformation group at Leeds. He performs multi-wavelength\nobservations of massive star formation\, has led various radio\nsurveys of the galactic plane and is on the science\nworking group for the next generation Square\nKilometre Array project.
