DESCRIPTION:Drama Theatre and Performance speaker series:\nJeannine Woods (National University of Ireland\, Galway)  “A right queer carry-on: traditional wake games\, drag performance and trans-formations of gender identities in Irish popular culture”\n̢åÛå» \nDr. Jeannine Woods graduated from NUI Maynooth with a joint first-class honours degree in Modern Irish and Cultural Anthropology. She was awarded a first-class MA in Culture and Colonialism by NUI Galway\, where she subsequently completed a doctorate on colonialism\, postcolonialism and Irish and Indian cinema under the supervision of Prof. Sean Ryder. She has been teaching and lecturing in NUI Galway since 2005.  Jeannine has been awarded scholarships and fellowships by the Linguistic Institute of Ireland\, by NUI Galway and by the Irish Research Council. She is the author of Visions of Empire and other Imaginings: Cinema\, Ireland and India 1910-1962 (Peter Lang\, 2011) which was shortlisted for an ESSE award for cultural studies in English in 2012. She has written articles and presented conference papers on cinema and on various aspects of gender and sexuality in Irish and international popular culture. \nFor more information please contact charlotte.mcivor@nuigalway.ie
